Education Queensland provides a core curriculum from Prep to year 12. Our curriculum for Years 1-7 is based upon the eight Key Learning Areas (KLA) within the Education Queensland syllabus documents. These are:
- English
- Mathematics
- The Arts
- Physical Education
- Science
- SOSE (Study of Society and the Environment)
- Technology
- LOTE (Languages Other Than English)
Education Queensland has identified Essential Learnings that students are able to access by the end of year 3, 5, 7 and 9. Essential Learnings identify what should be taught and what is important for students to have opportunities to know and be able to do. They describe the ways of working, and knowledge and understanding that students need for ongoing learning, social and personal competence, and participation in a democratic society. A parent brochure on the QCARF (Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework) is also available.
A wide range of learning experiences is provided to students via our integrated units. We have completed a school audit to ensure that all of the Essential Learnings are covered within these units and other tasks within the classroom lessons.
The task sheets (what the students are required to do) and criteria sheets (how the students are required to complete the tasks) are available for viewing by going to "Our Classes" on our website and following the links for individual classes.
Our Prep program is based on the five components of the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines. The Early Years Curriculum Guidelines (EYCG) provide teachers with a framework for interacting with children, and planning, assessing and reflecting on an effective Preparatory Year curriculum. The guidelines are based on active learning for children through real-life situations, investigation and play. They incorporate descriptions of 4 early learning and development phases to help teachers to monitor children's progress and preparedness for Year 1.
Our curriculum is enriched through access to specialists in Physical Education, Music, Instrumental Music, Japanese, ICT (Information Communication Technology) and a Teacher Librarian.
Our Learning Support program enables students to develop skills within the classroom and in small specialised groups with support teachers.
Our Fresh Minds program enables students to develop their gifts and talents within the classroom and in small specialised groups with Mrs Jo Edwards.
“To be able to be caught up into the world of thought -- that is educated.” Edith Hamilton
